Hardware Notes

Metadata always on NVMe. HyperStore stores object metadata and the Cassandra ring on dedicated NVMe drives — even in HDD configurations. Plan for at least 2 separate NVMe SSDs per node, in addition to data drives and boot drives.
Network Sizing
  • HDD nodes: 2× 10 GbE base. Add 25 GbE or 100 GbE NIC cards for high-throughput workloads.
  • Flash nodes: 2× 25 GbE minimum. Add 100 Gb or 400 Gb QSFP NICs for cluster interconnect at scale.
  • Use LACP bonding to double effective bandwidth on the same switch infrastructure.
Drive Compatibility
HyperStore supports SAS and SATA HDDs, U.2 NVMe SSDs, and M.2 NVMe for boot. Use enterprise-grade drives — consumer SSDs lack the write endurance (DWPD) required for metadata nodes under sustained workloads. Verify HBA / controller compatibility with Cloudian before procurement.
Power & Cooling
All configurations require redundant Titanium-rated PSUs. Dense 4U HDD configurations require front-to-back airflow racks. Flash nodes require higher PSU capacity per rack unit due to NVMe power density.
